Did Zayn Malik hint at Gigi Hadid break up before the news broke?

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid's amicable break up is the centre of speculation today, after some fans noticed the ex-One Direction singer potentially hinting at the split days before it was announced to the world.

The pair, who dated for over two years, confirmed they were going their separate ways with emotional statements on social media yesterday [13 March].

Zayn wrote,

"Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend. She has such an incredible soul. I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish the news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ"

Gigi's statement added,

"Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.. not only in the relationship, but in life in general.

"I'm forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever's meant to be will always be. xG"

But eagle-eyed Zigi fans are now wondering whether Zayn hinted at the split hours before the pair released their statements, with his cryptic Instagram caption.

Along with a selfie of his topless torso, Zayn wrote, "When Life throws you lemons , catch em so they don’t hit you in the fucking face [sic]".

Life giving you lemons, Zayn? Bitter about something? Either Zayn was hinting at the break up news to come, or someone's been coming for him with hard fruit.

Since announcing the split, Zayn has also unfollowed Gigi and her mum Yolanda on Instagram. Wonder if someone's chucking lemons in their direction, too?
